Health coverage is one of the biggest concerns federal employees have as they get closer to retirement. For most workers, leaving a job means losing employer-sponsored health insurance. Federal employees have the option that most people don't.
The short answer is yes. As long as you've been enrolled in FEHB for the 5 years right before you retire, you can keep your coverage in retirement, and the government continues to pay its share of the premium. It's also worth keeping in mind that you can keep FEHB for your dependents as well. FEHB is one of the most valuable benefits that comes with being a federal retiree.
